I was watching tv and a commercial for an odd mop came on. And I watched because I find infomercials mildly interesting, and then he said something that made me quite confused.

Amy, I hate to admit it, but I LOVE infomercials. They are strangely fascinating and make their product seem almost magical. Although I have no interest (or money, for that matter :) in buying their products, I am sorely tempted when I see how they solve problems I didn't know I had. Like, for instance, what to do if I spill my soda on the floor and can't get another one. This infomercial made me smile :)
Aren't they?! The over-exaggerated acting bothers me a little bit, but I agree that they are strangely fascinating. One time there was this infomercial on for some sort of miracle vacuum cleaner and I sat there and watched the entire 30 minute performance. It was AWESOME.
I don't know, Amy, I think the overacting makes the commercial (or at least entertains the audience). The host has to inform the audience how this product will change/revolutionize/organize/simplify/better/etc. the life of the viewer. If the host doesn't seem excited about the product, why should the public care? Also, I, too, am victim to the strange allure of infomercials: I have found myself sitting in front of the TV enthralled by a presentation for a JUICER, of all things. On another note, have fun at the premiere of the HBP tonight; I hope it's Harry Potter-tastic!
I like when I recognize infomercials--like I've watched the entire half-hour thing before. And I watch it again.
It's some kind of sorcery, I'm telling you.
Also, this product looks hilarious:
